Wei Ye, VP Riser Systems

Dr. Wei Ye has 15 years of industrial and academic experience in naval architecture and offshore engineering. He specializes in deep-water riser engineering and marine hydrodynamics. Dr. Ye has hands on experience with design and analysis of the steel catenary riser (SCR), top tensioned riser (TTR) and flexible riser system. He has served as the project manager and/or lead engineer for various SCR, TTR and flexible riser system projects, including the world renowned BP Thunder Horse 24-inch Oil Export SCR and 20-inch Gas Export SCR - the world largest SCRs in water depth more than 6000 ft. He has an extensive background in fully coupled hydrodynamic analysis and mooring design for offshore floating structures such as semi-submersibles, FPSOs, CALM Buoy Systems, Spars and TLPs. Dr. Ye has a strong background and profound understanding of riser engineering and marine hydrodynamics.

Representative projects include:

  • Murphy Kikeh Production TTR Design, Project Manager and Lead Engineer. Scope include offset drilling mooring design and global performance analysis, production TTR design including wall thickness, stack-up, component design (tapered stress joint, riser joint, keel joint, tensioner joint, spacer joint), VIV fatigue, interference, extreme strength, motion fatigue.
  • Vyborg Float-over Project Manager. Responsibility includes project management, interface, progress reporting, technical assessment. Scope includes mooring design, float-over analysis, grillage/skidbeam design, misc. steel design.
  • BP Mardi Gras Transportation System, Gulf of Mexico – Thunder Horse Export SCRs – Select, Define and Execute Phase. Deputy Project Lead. Responsible for the detail design and analysis of two large diameter export SCRs (24-inch Oil SCR and 20-inch Gas SCR).
