Alex Ran, Chief Naval Architect

Dr. Alex Ran has more than fifteen years of experience in offshore/marine structure design and analysis (hydrodynamics, global motions, mooring system design and offshore platform installation), five years of experience in ship design/construction as well as extensive experience in spar technology and detailed engineering. Dr. Ran has been the lead engineer for several major spar projects. He has strong technical skills and broad design experience in various types of deepwater structures and fixed platforms. He has an in-depth knowledge of the industry design codes and standards. Dr. Ran’s strong theoretical background and software development experience has earned him a prominent role in the development of software WINPOST (HARP), a state-of-art FE coupled dynamics analysis program for deep water structures. He also led the design and analysis of the first permanent polyester mooring system in the GOM.

Representative projects include:

  • Project Naval Architect, CPOC CPP platform floatover analysis and design covering all marine issues relate to stability, motion, mooring and installation.
  • Project Naval Architect, ConocoPhillips Indonesia North Belut Project. Responsible for all marine issues relate to the verification of the stability, motion, mooring and installation.
  • Lead Marine Engineer, CNOOC PY30 jacket design, responsible for all marine related analyses and design, including loadout, tow, launch and floatation.
