CNOOC shallow water Mooring Design Study

  • Timeline: 2009
  • Location: Weizhou Bay
  • Water Depth: 40m
  • Operator: N/A
  • Client: CNOOC Research Center

Project Description:
ODL was contracted by the CNOOC Research Center to design and develop an economical mooring solution for an octagonal-shaped FPSO and shuttle tanker to be deployed in Weizhou 11-7 field development in Weizhou Bay.

ODL Scope of Work:

ODL designed and analyzed multiple mooring systems and configurations and provided CNOOC with a recommendation for the best system.

Key Details:

Performed Frequency Domain Analysis, Time Domain Quasi-Static Analysis, and Time Domain Fully Dynamic Analysis on the FPSO and Shuttle Tanker in both fully loaded and ballasted conditions.

Designed a polyester mooring system and saved CNOOC $10.7M (compared with the cost of utilizing a more conventional Chain mooring system).

ODL provided CNOOC Research Center with detailed equipment lists, configuration drawings, and mooring installation procedures for both the polyester and chain mooring options.
