Project Description:
The PanYu Oil Field consists of two fixed platforms with an expected combined peak production capacity of 60,000 barrels of oil per day. Because the Chinese sea is known for turbulent weather, these platforms were designed to withstand 100 year typhoon conditions, ie. A wave height of 13.1m and wind speeds up to 200km/h. The field was hit by typhoon Dujuan and winds of 160km/h.
ODL Scope of Work:
ODL was contracted to assess the structural integrity of the platform.
Key Details:
Performed analysis on static and dynamic strength, earthquake strength, and fatigue analysis for current condition as well as after the typhoon. ODL recommended to add approximately 4 more conductors and 1 riser.
After initial analysis, ODL recommended a collapse analysis (push-over) to test reserve strength. Analysis showed that the structure could resist the 100 year storm, but it would undergo plastic deformation.
ODL recommended that CNOOC begin to unload the platforms of any unnecessary weight to alleviate jacket stress level.
